Vodafone customers told in error that money was debited from their accounts

Text messages and emails were sent by Vodafone thanking customers for making payments, despite no payments being made.

VODAFONE HAS APOLOGISED to customers today after it mistakenly told thousands of customers that they had had money debited from their bank accounts, even though the money was not owed or taken.

Text messages and emails were sent by Vodafone thanking customers for making payments, despite no payments being made or money being debited.

In a statement today the country’s largest mobile phone operators said that the messages were sent “due to an error” with their customer notification process.

“We want to reassure our customers that the issue has been fully resolved and the notification did not reflect any payments made but was purely a customer communication error,” they said.

Vodafone apologised to customers for any confusion caused.

“We are currently reviewing our notifications processes and will take the necessary measures to ensure that this issue doesn’t arise for our customers in the future.”

Their systems for contacting customers whose contracts are about to be cancelled are working just fine. 2 phone calls and 3 text messages so far this month as they attempt to get me to renew my contract.

I got two texts off them yesterday, one saying I’d paid €127, the other €20. I wouldn’t mind but I’m with the three network! I’ve never been on the Vodafone network. I wonder why my number is in their database?

I’m guessing these could be from their “test” IT system where they inadvertently triggered texts to random numbers entered on their test system. In fact its probably one guy mucking about with text and billing functionality whose probably off today at a wedding and nobody in vodaphone has a scooby doo whats going on. Kind of thing :-)

Lived in Dublin for two years, just returning back to the states last October and I have to say dealing with Vodafone was one of the most frustrating things I had to do while we were there. Their customer service was totally non-existent, dropped calls were abundant, and just the total lack of nobody knowing what they were doing even when you went into the store for assistance made troubleshooting a nightmare! I think they should CREDIT everyone for even using their service. Everyone gets a free month of “service”!

Totally, agree. Gave up on customer service and moved months ago . Overcharged and did not respond. Still got the text saying €45 paid though.

    2 problems with that premise,

    1. Right now in Ireland the majority of people regardless of class or social status are suffering financially. Most of my class have had to emirate to find work, that ranges from friends of mine who have trad skills to people with science degrees.

    2. Factually in the DICTIONARY elites are classed as people with power and political influence, for example Business leaders and Tw*t politicians like Enda or Bertie

That is a very lazy definition, your failing to take into account the circumstances of the wages. On average individuals in the Ireland have an annual gross income of €26,800. To an individual without family commitments this could be described as a sizable amount of money. But for a family of 4 with a mortgage this would be very different.
