FOLLOWING TWO SEPARATE jobs announcements today some 60 jobs will be created by two US companies in Cork and Galway.

Minister for Research and Innovation Sean Sherlock announced that Entercoms, a provider of after market supply chain services will establish its European Headquarters in Mallow, Co Cork.

The new facility will create 30 highly skilled roles over a three year period with positions available for industrial engineers, operations research scientists, experts with programme management and more.

Making the announcement, Sherlock said the choice of Mallow as the company’s European headquarters was “very significant”.

“These jobs will provide a much needed boost to the local economy,” he said. “This is the first time in many years that we have been able to attract high end jobs and a European Headquarters to the town.”

Galway

Meanwhile in Galway, mobile innovation company Synchronoss announced the creation of 30 new positions over the next three months in its Research and Development and Operations centre. The positions will be in the areas of research and development, quality assurance and service delivery.

Commenting on the announcement, Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton said it was a great example of the cutting edge activities being carried out in Ireland.

The Minister said he will be in Silicon Valley and the western United States on an foreign direct investment mission this week and will meet with “some of the world’s leading innovative tech companies”.

Both of these developments are being supported by IDA Ireland.

  • The way things are going in the media every time someone gets a job it will be mentioned on the news. ” today a job was created in the black economy …. Gardai say it has an estimated street Value or €100,000 euros.”

    • Exact!

As I have observed before, no journo seems ever to have taken the trouble to follow up these largely fictitious announcements.

How many of the numbers announced ever materialise?

Given the lack of vigilance on this point, the Brutons could make any number of fanciful statements and we would never know if even one job was “created” — or none.

Anyhow, this morning it’s good to know all our problems are over — 60 jobs! We’re in clover again! Whoop-de-whoo!

  • Whilst any new jobs are very welcome, this ‘over 3 years’ thing really gets on my nerves.
I wonder would the bank accept my 3 year repayment strategy at face value?

    • It’s starting to become embarrassing. I mean every time Bruton turns up to announce a few jobs being created, invariably a few hours later, another company sheds even more jobs.

    • Hello ISBA
Yes very ignorant and uninformed to take my comments down. So you’re an organisation! IS isn’t your first name and you regard yourself as highly respected and then go on with the mask of anonymity to accuse me of being a Fine Gael or Minister Bruton plant.
Well I will answer one of your questions………No I definitely am not a Political plant though I am a committed supporter of the present Government as the alternatives are ultimate ruination through an Administration that might include Sinn Fein.

      Yes Rodrigo.
We’d probably be better doing nothing so with your logic !

The fact we are losing jobs is EXACTLY why the guy is working so hard to bring in more

    To Paddy Rogers:

It of course was Judge Moriarty that spoke so highly of our group. Far be it for us to shower such praise on ourselves. We are a dedicated group, many from Fine Gael backgrounds who cannot believe the lies, u-turns, incompetence and gaping leadership deficit within this Fine Gael led government.

You are entitled to your views but it is clear from your comments that however well intentioned you may be, you are deluding yourself and unwilling to listen to others. Just look at your thumbs down ratios.

  • Instead of announcing these new jobs that the IDA or enterprise Ireland have invariably funded why doesnt the government invest much needed funding into viable businesses that can’t get funding from the bank and help to secure the employment that these companies are already giving

  • Galway and cork again, what about the rest of the country. We’re sick of being ignored in the south east.

    • Cian do a search on the journal for Galway and there have been numerous job announcements for Galway, then do one for waterford. John halligans stat of over 1200 Ida job announcements and a net loss of 200 for waterford over the past year confirms the governments stance. Concentrate on Dublin, cork and Galway and to hell with the rest of the country.

Did you never think of moving? It’s what people do it other countries when they want to get employment.

    • mcbab, I am self employed and love this area… if i had to move i’d emigrate and who will pay Enda’s salary then?

  • Four typical whingers and moaners. So easy to drop a mealy mouthed slur like the accusation of bogus Job announcements against a Government Department and the Minister. You must all be employed in pretty dull PS employment and just started your day. I say that for two reasons. If you were unemployed you’re the sort that would be still in bed and if you are in employment it couldn’t be the private sector as you would have been rooted out long ago. Sad.

Well, if it isn’t the bould Paddy Rogers again. They took your comments down yesterday – somewhat ignorant and grossly uninformed. Are you a Fine Gael plant or what? You might now identify yourself.

For the record, the Irish Small Business Alliance is in fact very well known and unlike Mr. Bruton, we don’t have to hide from anyone.
Judge Moriarty of the Moriarty Tribunal described our group thus;- ” I appreciate that your alliance is a substantial and highly reputable body that obviously has understandable concerns in seeing that this aspect of the Tribunal business is inquired into properly and sufficiently and from my knowledge of that previous correspondence, I value significantly the assistance that you, and through your members, have furnished in assisting the Tribunal in its preliminary enquiries”.

You friend Mr. Bruton has been hiding from us since at least 1995, he knows our contact details so save yourself the bother, but please pass on our dialogue to your friend, you might also copy it to Minister Perry.

The highly respected British based, Law Business Research Group had this to say of Mr. Bruton’s Competition Law Enforcement legacy: “the prosecution of cartels has been next to dire and 2001-2002 represented little change from the previous 5 years….the authority appeared to struggle to unearth evidence of new cartels, launched limited dawn raids and in areas where it had some material to back up suspicions had secured no positive results”.

Paddy, wake up and smell the coffee. The socio economic fabric of our society is being torn apart and the ISBA will not be found wanting in its efforts to bring about a fairer society and a climate in which small business can thrive and regenerate our economy.

We very much look forward to meeting Minister Bruton in Court so hopefully you will be as good as your word.

I think you will find that Companies willing to invest here will decide themselves where to locate their investment though they may be encouraged by State Agencies to choose a particular area or region. In some industries it is critical that you access Ports or Airport or large supplies of fresh water or particular skillsets that require you to select a highly populated area. I’m sure that the IDA win very few of those discussions.

    Reply
    • Paddy…there is a Port and Airport in Waterford and plenty of water and a nice blend of skill sets in numerous industries already located there…its the closest point in the country to mainland Europe by air and sea…I cant understand the pull of Galway all the time..probably cronyism and clout and Michael D Higgins..

      Reply
    • Therein lies the problem, pull the Ida out of the city and sure lets remove the city council. Sure they’ll be grand is the governments position as regards waterford.
There is a drive to get behind 3 regional cities in this country and that is obvious
