Over 75 per cent of people do their Christmas shopping at work

A new survey also showed that only 9 per cent of people will buy Irish this festive season.

A NEW SURVEY has revealed that a sneaky 76 per cent of Irish people are doing their Christmas shopping on their bosses time this year.

he survey, which was conducted across 60,000 of the Irish cash back website FatCheese.ie’s members, also showed that 94 per cent of people will shop online for Christmas this year, which is up from 72 per cent who did last year.

The majority of people said that they will spend between €250 and €500 with the next group saying it will be the lower end of the scale from €100 to €250, while 43 per cent of people said they will spend in or around the same amount they spent last year on gifts.

It seems consumers will generally be spending it on games, CDS or DVDs while the next most popular category was electronic goods at 49 per cent followed by books and clothes.

However the consumers show very little patriotism when it comes to online shopping with only 9 per cent of people saying they will buy Irish this Christmas. 70 per cent of people said they will go for wherever the best value is while 21 per cent said this was no concern to them.

Some 83 per cent of people said they found better value online that in stores.

Other results show that over a quarter of online consumers will be buying an online daily deal voucher for someone as a gift this festive season while 71 per cent of people have begun their Christmas shopping earlier this year.

Commenting on the survey, Ahmed Zaman, co-founder of FatCheese.ie said the results are “quite interesting” as Irish consumers are clearly concerned with getting the best deal online, wherever that may be.

“Also the amount of Irish people doing their shopping online is growing which is good to see,” he said. “People seem to be keeping their level of spending the same as in 2011 online and many looking to spread out the spending longer by starting earlier which will obviously help them when trying to budget their spend.”

Give me sunshine any day no matter how cold it is. It’s possible to miss lots of things about Ireland except the weather.

@offside again: So true… the difference it makes to your mood. Personally, I prefer to be too cold than too hot but I understand why others hate it. As my used to say ‘it’s fresh Donna’. Not sure but I think the low temperature gets rid of some germs too.
