another tip would be to not remove tags in posts like this but to replace any with their web friendly html entities.

CSS sprites would reduce requests quite a fair bit as well.

Also, why are your main headings h2′s and not h1′s? And you should be looking into using microdata – both Google and Bing support it (schema.org)

@Brian, I’ll save you guys a few bob so you don’t have to hire Mr. Kinny – just install the Firefox YSlow plugin ;)

@CPM You should only really have a single H1 tag on a page and few H2 tags and then more H3 tags. Although thejournal has no H1 tags it seems. H1 tags are usually the same as the title and contain the important keywords.

@Michael Quinn – YSlow is great but you can lead a man to water but can you teach the donkey to fish, that’s the real question.

@CPM sorry, reread what you wrote and you’re basically saying what I said.

@inda – Yes, I know that, that’s why I said; ‘main’ headings should be h1, one main heading per page, obviously.
