There's (dubious) speculation online that the Web Summit will be bought by SXSW

‘Just rumours’ says the company.

ONLINE CHATTER THAT the Web Summit is to be bought by SXSW are simply rumours according to the Dublin-based conference company.

A spokesperson for the company which holds the highly successful The Summit conference, formerly Dublin Web Summit, says that it “isn’t surprising” that there are rumours floating around about interest in the company but that they are focused on this year’s conference in November.

The International Business Times reported apparent interest in the company this morning but their tenuous source was a post on gossip app Secret.

The app allows people to post anonymously and have friends and contacts respond.

The post suggested that ‘Web Summit is about to be bought by SXSW’ with one person even suggesting that the purchase price was to be in the region of $48 million.

Music, film and interactive conference SXSW would appear to be the type of business that would be interested in buying the The Summit but a spokesperson said that they are used to such rumours being mentioned:

It’s not surprising that there are rumours about a potential purchase given that we are fastest growing conference company in the world but I’ve heard nothing of that particular one.

“It would make sense that people would be interested in us but we’re just concentrating on the conference later on this year,” they added.
