WITH THE DÁIL finishing up for the summer in about a month’s time (17 July to be exact), you’re all probably wondering where you’ll get your fix of grown men and women shouting at each other in the name of progress.
Well, TV3 may have allayed your concerns by announcing no less than seven journalists who will be fronting the “Tonight With Vincent Browne” show over the summer months.
Vincent Browne is currently off air recuperating from a bout of pneumonia, he’ll be back in his regular Ballymount seat on 8 September. But TV3 bosses have worked to secure seven named stand-ins and one “wild-card” who will take the hot seat on a weekly basis.
First up tonight for this week is journalist Alison O’Connor, followed by regular stand-in Sam Smyth.
Newstalk Breakfast presenter and former government minister Ivan Yates will take over the reigns in July with the Irish Independent’s Legal Editor Dearbhail McDonald also taking Vincent’s spot for four nights.
The remaining presenters between now and the end of August will be former national newspaper editors Noirín Hegarty and Ger Colleran as well as Tom McGurk, who’s been filling in for a number of weeks.
Now, you may feel that you’ve seen all these faces before, in fact you have, they’ve all presented the show at some point over the last few years.
So TV3 are seeking to freshen things up by holding a “wild-card week” at the end of July when the stand-in presenter will be someone, or a number of people, who hasn’t hosted the show before.
Oh, and get well soon Vincent.
