Ulster Bank says problem located, promises refunds and Sunday opening

Customers have been experiencing problems with their bank accounts since Wednesday.

ULSTER BANK HAS said that the root cause of the systems issue which has prevented customers from accessing their funds with the bank has now been found and has promised to be fully operational again by Monday.

The bank has been hit by significant technical problems this week which have seen its payments systems experience delays.

This has meant that customers have been unable to receive money due into their accounts such as salaries and social welfare payments.

While ATM withdrawals and internet banking services should still be available customers’ balances are not showing records of any cash lodged to their accounts since Wednesday.

The bank has apologised unreservedly for the problems that have been caused and has said that the issue has now been identified by its parent bank Royal Bank of Scotland in the UK.

“We are currently working to process the backlog of payments and update customer balances and expect to be fully operational by Monday 25th June,” a statement said.

The bank has also said that it will refund custmers who have incurred fees or charges as a result of the issue and has said it will extend opening hours in 80 of its branches this evening until 7pm.

Further to this, the bank will be open over the weekend with 60 branches open tomorrow from 10am until 3pm and 20 if its largest branches open on Sunday from 10am to 1pm.

    This is better than the deafening silence that preceded it I suppose.

    But what about customers of other banks who didn’t get paid because the payment never arrived from an Ulster Bank account? Will they be compensated for costs they incur as result also?

    I’ve been dealing with the cashier staff for the past few days and they’ve been nothing but apologetic to me. They didn’t know any more than what some of them had heard on the radio or read online which says something about their own internal communication. I just hope this thing is fixed quick.

    What about the rest of us that aren’t ulster bank customers and didn’t get paid, are they going to do anything for us, they should remember its not just THEIR customers that are effected.

    I hope so! I’m really annoyed as with Boi to access my savings account i have to give written 7 days notice, so my rainy day savings are dependent on having a week of funds! Lol! It’s also annoying as my car payment was due out thurs and now I’m going to be late! And no one could have seen this coming. my rent also but my land lady is very understanding. It’s really not a nice predicament. And I don’t think I can go into an ulster bank and ask for money when I was never even with them! Besides I’m working til 10 :-(
    But fair play to them staying open. Hope they get it sorted!

    So they said they’d b concentrating on credits first…. My wages were due in yesterday which never happened. I took cash out at the ATM this afternoon figuring the credit would appear before the debit but guess what. My account is almost in the red now because they’ve accounted for the withdrawal and still no wages there!! Beyond fuming now! TG I’d a bit extra there!

    My family planned to go to other country for this weekend… After checking the balance in Ulster Bank – we refuse it !? What about our lost – paid money?
