TOYOTA AUTO MANUFACTURER has recalled 1.9 million Priuses globally, including 700 in Ireland.

It’s believed that the recall of hybrid cars is due to a “software glitch” that needs to be fixed.

Bloomberg reports that the glitch “could slow down the car or bring it to a halt”.

So far, the problems have only arisen in cars in North America and Japan, and no accidents have been reported as a result of the problem.

The recall of vehicles affects the hybrid ultra-green Prius model manufactured between March 2009 and February 2014.

Toyota will be writing to all owners to arrange them to have their vehicle fixed at their local dealer at their convenience.

Toyota is the top seller in hybrid cars globally.
