Totally agree tho, Recently went to Stonehenge and Newgrange is far more impressive, always wanted to be there for the winter soltice.

I’m ashamed to say I have never been to Newgrange and as for the iPad I struggled with saying iPad I should have said pc. Mentioning Apple and Bono on the journal is risky lol.

There have been a lot of silly things done in the vicinity of National Monuments but I don’t remember anyone pulling down “countless castles”?

Yes, castles destroyed – try Rossmore Castle, Macroom Castle, Bailieborough Castle for starters – all demolished…the list goes on and on.

Macroom castle was burnt during the war of independence – it wasn’t pulled down for a “crass, tasteless development”. I’m not saying that we have a perfect record with regard to protecting our heritage but there is no need for hyperbole.

The remains of Macroom were then pulled down rather than restored. And, those castles are just head line ones, there have been countless other smaller castles (e.g towers) pulled down.

Definitive evidence of the destruction of our heritage is to be found in the archaeological surveys of Ireland (carried out by the National Monuments Service) which have been done over the decades. I trust you won’t argue with their findings.
