Ten 'stand out' start-ups selected for business support programme

Each of the ten teams selected will be provided with mentoring from world-class industry experts and €15,000 seed funding.

TEN OUTSTANDING IRISH and international business start-ups were selected to receive €15,000 seed funding today, as part of the Startupbootcamp Dublin programme, which aims to support new businesses and give them exposure to the European market.

Each of the ten teams selected will be provided with mentoring from world-class industry experts; €15,000 in funding; access to a network of over 300 investors from across Europe; six-month co-working space preparation for launching; and investor days.

The European accelerator network, which says it is dedicated to supporting the next generation of start-ups into success stories, set up camp in Dublin’s on Barrow Street earlier today.

The three-month programme will culminate with an Investor Demo Day on 16 May, where teams will showcase to over 200 investors and mentors to secure follow-on investment.

The ten finalists are:

  1. Adfaces (Israel & Poland) – a web platform for SME businesses to advertise affordably and easily on any outdoor media.
  2. CleverMiles (Ireland) – a system enhancing road safety and saving lives through a 3 part strategy of driver monitoring, driver education and a system of incentives
  3. Easyprove (Lithuania) – Software to replace spreadsheets in key processes such as purchase orders and invoice approvals for multidivisional SMEs
  4. Getbulb (Ireland) – transforms complex data into clear pictures, without the limitations of pre-defined styles of a typical spreadsheet.
  5. MavenHut (Romania) – casual, skill-based games which can be monetized through one-on-one wagers and tournament play.
  6. NotesFirst (USA) – a secure tablet for doctors to capture and recall patient data on-the-go.
  7. Opara (Brazil) – increases traceability of perishable produce across the entire chain of agricultural distribution.
  8. Outline (Ireland) – mines inboxes for tasks, questions and commitments and provides managers with complete transparency over emails, tasks and actions across their entire team.
  9. Pombai (USA & China) – a marketplace that allows businesses and individuals to buy or sell tickets for regional passenger transport in countries off the beaten track.
  10. Skynet (Ireland) – turning paper-based drilling data into corporate value for the oil and gas industry.

The 2012 Startupbootcamp Dublin Investor Day will take place on 16 May in SBC Dublin HQ, on Dublin’s Barrow Street from 12 – 6 PM

Always like a company prepared to take an ominous name. Lucent was always the best. Cue big red/orange paintings to hang in reception…

€15k? You’d make more with less effort off kickstarter and not have to write 15 business plans to get it. Sounds like these ideas are far enough along to warrant more than €15k.

The cash isn’t the only thing being offered, though. I’d imagine the thoughts of having access to a pool of 300 investors is the main reason for taking part in the bootcamp program.

This one in particular sounds good. It’s a pity the PPARS system was such a badly managed disaster and has meant that very little investment in technology has taken place in the health system.
