SuperValu to create 400 new jobs as two new stores to open

The company also announced that it will be refurbishing 34 existing stories as it adds to its 15,000 strong workforce.

THE SUPERMARKET SUPERVALU has announced it will create 400 jobs this year as it opens two new stores and refurbishes 34 others.

As part of of €25 million investment programme two new supermarkets will be opened in Mountmellick, Co Laois and Manorhamilton in Co Leitrim.

A further 34 existing stores will be refurbished as 400 jobs are added to the independent supermarket’s 15,000 strong workforce.

Martin Kelleher, SuperValu Managing Director said in a statement:

The trading environment in 2011 continues to be extremely difficult, but we are confident we can continue to adapt our offer in response to the budget conscious consumer.

SuperValu, which currently has 192 stores across Ireland, recorded €2.1 billion in sales in 2010 and said its market share grew from 19.9 per cent at the end of 2010 to 20.2 per cent at present.
