SuperValu to create 300 jobs in 2013

New staff will be hired following the opening of three new stores and extending a further 40 as part of a €20 million investment.

SUPERVALU HAVE SAID they hope to create around 300 jobs this year as part of a €20 million investment programme.

The jobs will be created following the opening of three new stores and the extension and refurbishment of a further 40. More than half of the positions will be in Celbridge, Co. Kildare and Milltown Malbay, Co. Clare with the opening of two greenfield sites.

The Irish supermarket also announced that the brand recorded retail sales of €2.1 billion last year.

“This was achieved by delivering value to shoppers through price reductions, promotions and our extensive SuperValu own brand range,” said Martin Kelleher, Managing Director of SuperValu.

With 195 stores nationwide, SuperValu currently employs 12,000 people, including 450 butchers and over 200 bakers. It has an annual payroll of over€213 million.

    SuperValue have some great prices if you watch what you buy but they also sneak up prices on some items for no apparent reason…they must have got their training in Tesco who are masters at sneaking up prices every week..e.g. own brand Tesco beans up 10c this week and lots of other items as well…shop around is the answer.

    Actually it’s 250 jobs; but I wouldn’t put a cap on it judging by their recent growth.

    i welcome this jobs announcement but with scepticism, how many of these jobs will be fulltime?? i know that many jobs in supermarkets especially Tesco and Dunnes are only part time (only around 20 hours a week) and many of the staff are students, i know that anything better than dole but surely companies like Tesco should be hiring people for full time hours instead of token 20 hours a week

    To aay SV wmploys all those people is very misleading and factually incorrect.
    The vast majority of the stores are privately owned and use the SV franchise. So the staff are employed by the store owner not SV.

    All sv stores are privately owned. A job is a job lad who cares whether it’s a chain or a private owner

    @seemyvest

    No one is arguing that a job is a good thing, the point I was making is that SV are taking the kudos for the jobs when in fact they aren’t employing anyone, its the retailer
