THE GAMES COMPANY Sega has become the latest company to have its customer database hacked and has warned its clients that details such as email addresses, dates of birth and encrypted passwords may have been stolen by hackers.
The company, once famous for its home video games consoles like the Megadrive, said that no payment information had been obtained by the hackers who gained access to the Sega Pass service, according to The Telegraph.
An email warned its customers: “If you use the same login information for other websites and/or services as you do for Sega Pass, you should change that information immediately.”
Access to the Sega Pass website has been suspended with the website saying that the system is going through “some improvements”.
Sega is the latest games company to be hit by a hacking and/or denial of service attack on its online services with Nintendo, Sony and several multi-player gaming companies also being hit in recent months.
The hacker group Lulz Security, which has been involved in a number of attacks, said on Twitter that it had some sympathy for Sega remarking on its enjoyment of the Dreamcast, Sega’s last console in the early 2000s:
