SAMSUNG IS SAID to be revealing its smartwatch at an event today – and now photographs of the watch are emerging online.
Samsung will reveal the Galaxy Gear today, and rumours have been flying about what it will look like.
Ahead of the official reveal, VentureBeat reporter Christina Farr has the scoop on what it looks like.
A source showed her a promotional video for the smart watch and she took photos, which show that it looks like a small smartphone slapped on a watch wristband.
She says the screen is 3-inches diagonally and is “quite large,” with the bezels on the top and bottom making it even bigger, giving it “a chunky, rectangular shape, with rounded corners”.
There’s a camera in the top of the screen, and Farr suggests users can take quick snaps of food to log what they’re eating.
Fitness/health are supposed to be part of the Gear’s appeal. It connects to Android phones with Bluetooth, but it has its own WiFi connection to do some emailing as a standalone device.
It supposedly gets around 10 hours of battery life.
However, according to Gigaom, the device shown to Farr is a prototype – and not the real thing. The real thing is due to be shown simultaneously at technology trade shows in New York and Berlin.
While Business Insider believes “Frankly, this thing looks like it’s going to be DOA” due to looking “clunky and pointless”, it will be interesting to see how Samsung markets the device.
