7 things the new Samsung Galaxy S6 and Edge bring to the table

Excited yet?

TODAY’S THE DAY two of the most anticipated smartphones of 2015 arrive, the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge.

Going back to scratch, both smartphones signal a new direction for Samsung as it takes on a whole new design as well as some new ideas in the pipeline.

A lot of thought has been put into how both devices look and feel as well as act and there are numerous standout features that makes them worth considering.

It ditches the plastic for a sleek metal design

Ditching the plastic design that has served it well in the past, the S6 and the Edge has adopted a metal and glass design that oozes class. With a sleek and bright design, it’s comfortable to hold and will certainly catch the eye of anyone who sees you with it.

They’re also incredibly thin (6.8mm) and light (138g) so you won’t even feel like you’re holding it.

Boosted specs makes it one of the best smartphones in the market

While the screen is the same size as the S5, don’t be fooled into thinking it hasn’t been improved. The 5.1-inch AMOLED display is a fantastic 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and manages to pack in 577 ppi (pixels per inch).

That gives you one of the sharpest screens you can find on any smartphone out there, perfect for games and HD video and photos.

Photography has been taken to the next level

Among the many upgrades to the camera – it now only takes 0.7 seconds to launch – one of the most exciting changes is how it copes with low-light situations.

The 16MP rear camera features Optical Image Stabilisation and fast tracking auto-focus so your shots are clear and focused, but its F1.9 aperture will help you capture those important photos in low-light so you don’t miss a thing.

And don’t forget the 5MP front camera which is more than capable of capturing those important selfies.

A redesigned interface combines the best of TouchWiz and Lollipop

The S6 and S6 Edge come with an overhauled version of the TouchWiz interface, which improves both the look and functionality of the Galaxy series.

Taking the best elements of Android Lollipop like Material Design, incorporating bright backgrounds and bold colours as well as a card-style multitasking menu, combine it with TouchWiz and you have a phone that is clear and easy to navigate

Add to that slicker animations and a smoother interface, and it becomes one of the most exciting versions of Android out there.

No charge, no problem

While the Galaxy S6 marks the end of removable batteries for Samsung, the benefits outweigh the cons in two ways.

The first is charging is now faster than ever – ten minutes of charging will provide you with four hours of usage – while wireless charging means you won’t have to waste time searching for any cables to restore battery life. No more figuring out whether the cable is the right way round or remembering where you last put it.

A new way to keep on top of calls

While the S6 Edge boasts a lovely curved screen, it isn’t there just for show. It also serves its own ways to help you concentrate on what’s in front of you.

The S6 Edge allows you to put your phone face down so you’re not distracted by what flashes up on screen. If you do get a call, the edge will flash a certain colour, depending on who’s calling, so you know whether it’s one you should ignore or one you have to take.

You’ll never be short of storage space

Another change that fans may be disappointed to hear about is the lack of an SD slot, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to be short of space. Far from it.

With 32GB being the minimum storage space you can have, you will certainly have enough to store anything important. You can increase it to 64GB or even a whopping 128GB which is more than enough for your apps, photos, games, videos and anything else you want to store.

Also, it comes with three of Microsoft’s apps, Skype, OneNote and OneDrive, which includes 100GB of storage. So what storage problems?
