Taoiseach Enda Kenny at Ryanair's new campus. Niall Carson

Ryanair promises 200 jobs as it opens new Dublin campus and launches new website

The airline say the jobs will be in the areas of technology, software and marketing.

RYANAIR SAYS IT will create 200 jobs at its new office campus which was opened in Dublin today by Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

The airline say the jobs will be in the areas of technology, software and marketing and are in addition to the 500 jobs for pilots, engineers and cabin crew that they will create across Europe in 2014.

The 100,000 sq.ft campus in the Airside Business Park in Swords was officially opened today by Kenny and Minister for Finance Michael Noonan as Ryanair prepares to launch its newly redesigned website later today.

It is intended that the new office will be used to develop Ryanair’s digital platforms with the company’s new mobile app due to be released in June.

Although the new campus was officially launched today, potential employees have been given tours of the space over the past few months, with chief executive Michael O’Leary understood to have conducted the tour on at least one occasion.

Upon officially opening the new office today, An Taoiseach commended Ryanair for their commitment to Ireland, adding that their sector is being targeted by the Government as a growth area:

From an early stage, we have targeted tourism as a key driver of economic recovery and I am pleased to say budgetary measures such as the 9 per cent VAT rate and the more recent cutting of the travel tax to zero have been welcomed by the industry which has responded by delivering new jobs and routes.

Ryanair’s chairman David Bonderman says that the Government’s decision on the travel tax has “directly led Ryanair to open 21 new routes to Ireland in 2014″,  which he says will add more that 1.1 million passengers at Irish airports.

“Ryanair sees the decision to scrap the travel tax as a welcome policy development by Mr Kenny’s government, which will enable Ireland’s airline and tourism industry to grow strongly,” he said.

“It has certainly encouraged Ryanair to invest in, and help create, thousands of new jobs here in Ireland in 2014. ”

Bonderman added that Ryanair are soon to take delivery of another 175 aircraft.

Nicole THANKS,it saddens me to see how many people on this page can not see the real picture at Ryanair.
You are correct to some point with your comment regarding worst employer in Ireland,i would say worst in Europe..Many young people from Ireland and Europe wanting a career as cabin crew have been abuse by Ryanair/Crewlink/Dalmac who have set up a policy ” recruitment for termination” as new recruits are charged a training fee of up to 3000 euro with a high % terminated under 1 year, which keeps recruitment level high..Ryanair can have 29 recruitment days in any one month with Easy Jet having 2…..Ask yourself WHY….
As you will see the new offices are for management,Crew Control and office workers, NOT for cabin crew who will still be using the old office at Dublin airport…Ryanair since 2004 have a US billionaire Chief, David Bonderman TPG Capital who is guilty of exploitation of the work force for profit..Priority at Ryanair is the share price and cabin crew and pilots are not respected by Management..With well over 10,000 new recruited cabin crew terminated since David Bonderman became CHIEF,
Do people in Ireland know Ryanair pay new recruited cabin crew 10 Euro a flight ?…
Do people in Ireland know Ryanair force all new recruits to open Bank of Ireland accounts (not in uk ) and freeze the accounts of terminated cabin crew once terminated. This freeze of bank account is done so Ryanair/Crewlink final salary will be kept..
Name me one company that force an employee to open a bank account at the choice of the employer ?

One last point, respect and dignity should be given to all on board crew at Ryanair by management which clearly is their biggest failure..

Fair play to Mick O Leary!

Alway stated that when travel tax was abolished he would deliver in many ways, and he has . Look what’s happened at Shannon; more biz there.

More jobs, more routes opened, elsewhere also.Single handedly responsible for recent boost to tourism in this country.

The best businessman in Ireland by a mile, and trained originally by Tony Ryan, same as Denis O Brien. Proper role models for right thinking youngsters seeking an entrepreneurial
    career.

And o Leary retains his tax residency here also.
The realists on here very much appreciate his worth to Ireland. And he’s not as grumpy or abrasive lately.

May be thinking of that Political career after all!

Now such a move would shake things up, for a better society.

    Go Mick!

People who don’t take a job to get off the dole/assistance as they say its low paid are the same people who complain that all these foreingers coming into our county taking our jobs, they are taking our jobs as we are too lazy and snobbish to take jobs that we think dont pay enough or think we are too good for!

No they are not free to walk away James. The agencies are not up front about this..New recruits invest thousands in accommodation, training with a high % terminated.Different methods to pay for training, yes one way was through bank of Ireland loan of 3,500 Euro which are campaign stopped in 2010,reason being why would a bank loan when so many students terminated and not being able to repay loan…Your first port of call for new recruits was Dublin airport Bank Of Ireland offering this training loan..So please do your research before you comment about agencies.

There are 2 types of cabin crew at Ryanair.Total amount being 5000.
20% average are contracted by Ryanair who are paid well.
80% average are probationary contracted through so called third party agents who are exploited and a Ryanair flight from Dublin to Liverpool is 45 mins..Hourly Ryanair rate of pay before tax in Dublin is 16 euro with new recruits paying HIGH rate of PAYE ..SO WORK IT OUT YOURSELF..
10 Euro a flight….Plus you only get paid once aircraft is airborne so a 45 min flight can have you working over 1 hour each flight extra which is not paid… Look at TrolleyDolly90 here http://www.cabincrew.com/forums/how-much-u-can-earn-in-ryanair/206019/1

I got these for years when I worked in Swords and never found the commute a problem. Since people are prepared to work in London, Dubai, Canada etc if your too lazy to sit on a bus for that long I don’t think many companies would want to employ you. Also Swords is easily accessible from other locations, Blanchardstown, Skerries, Malahide, Meath, Louth etc not everyone applying for these jobs lives in the city. The motorway makes it easy to access from most locations no more difficult then companies in Parkwest etc. Lots of people living hours from where they work due to being unable to afford houses closer to Dublin in the past few years.

Advice to Mr O’Leary, take advantage of the high level of unoccupied office space in the city centre. Other than that small gripe – the very best of luck to Ryanair!!

My brother recently done an interview for one of these IT positions, he lives in the Midlands more than willing to commute the 1hr 15mins if he’s successful. Which if enough of ye who live only minutes away think it’s too far to go, he will be.

Why cram an even bigger crowd of commuters into the city centre every day ?

A lot of people – especially younger people in rented accommodation and with no car – live in or near to the city; walking or cycling is an option for many.

I moved my business from Citywest to the city centre for the same reason, we just couldn’t get the right people to even interview, never mind take a job!

Haha – I admire your resourcefulness, PI. Sadly, we are full up :-( My company only has 4 people (including me).

Plenty of jobs out there in IT, though. My advice is to stick with one recruiter for city centre roles, a different one for a different area, etc. Some recruiters, if they see you will take jobs in harder to place parts of Dublin, may only send you jobs for those areas. If you can avoid recruiters, well and good, but in my opinion there are a few who are really really good – for both candidate and employer.

Also, get lots of skills on your CV, as they are pretty much the only thing people look at. Even if you only did SQL for a week, put it down.

    Buona fortuna!

How many people are commuting an hour or so to jobs in the city centre? What’s travel time in mornings to city centre from say Blanchardstown or Kildare as examples plus Swords gives chance for people living out Balbriggan, Ashbourne etc.

Government brings in travel and Ryanair say it will sack 200 employees if it happens. It did happen and Ryanair did sack 200 employees. Joe public sighs at tipical government and Ryanair BS.

Government drops the stupid travel tax and Ryanair creates 200 new jobs to much fan fair from the Ryanair fan club.

I’d say we call this one a drawn for the Irish economy…

Why would they pay city centre rates when they don’t need a presence there, when instead they can set up near the airport, where I think they may have some business interests?

Maybe because the “centre” (or other locations in town) are equidistant from a lot of other places where people lives, as well as better served by public transport?
In this way you’re closing the access to those position for people living in D4/D6/D8 or the south side in general.
To access that Business park, would take almost an hour from here, whether you’re using Public Transport, own car or -in my case- even a scooter… commuting is insane.

It’s about 40mins on a bike from D8, I do it every day. 30mins from city center on Swords Express. Only 15k on your scooter. I think if your too lazy to make that trip you’d be no loss to any company.

I’m sorry, but I don;t think so. I had an interview recently up there, it took me almost 50 minutes to go there with my scooter, even using the Bus Lana.
That would be at least 1.5 hr/day wated in commuting if you get the job. Plus there’s no where if you need to shop for your own.
Of course there always be someone living too far for any place, I’m just saying that a centralized location would be a better choice (like many companies did). As someonelse wrote here, would be hard to get top talented people going to work up there…

It truly is disgraceful that they didn’t consider your commute when choosing the location for this operation. Just a thought, but maybe they feel there are 200 people on the Northside that could fill these positions, see obvious advantages to operating close to their main place of business in the airport, wish to benefit from reduced costs by operating outside the city, and don’t particularly give a rats ass whether it suits you or not?

I’m sorry for my poor written English that lead you misunderstanting what I said.
    I didn’t mean this “personal”.
I’m jusy saying that opening a campus like that would be better think at a location *easy reachable* for a lot of people.
I find those business parks in the edge of a city quite alienating, but that’s my personal opinion and I repect other’s.
Again, I’m only saying that *would* have been better place location like that in a please more easy to go to and “live” in.
    That’s all.

I worked in the business park and commuted from Terenure. No problem, also there’s plenty of accommodation in Swords and its only minutes from the City Centre, if you find that to much of a struggle i don’t think your the type employee Ryanair wants.

what do you say to companies who open outside of Dublin, EBAY and Paypal are outdside the city centre too.

The people of Dublin 4,6 & 8 must be devastated. Their areas are so neglected! Maybe ryan air will make a little airport for them too so they can get the LUAS to work and have easy access to 8 different Starbucks and choose a different cycle lane each day of the week should they decide to cycle.

Brian – go easy on Proudly Italian – he’s offering his own opinion, there’s no need to jump down his throat.

His points sound very valid to me. The city centre is a much more desirable place to live than Swords, for many people – not everyone, but certainly younger IT professionals who Ryanair will be trying to attract.

I spent 3 months on a client site out in Airside, travelling about 30 mins on the M50 every day. No other option (other than going into and out of town on buses) to get there.

There isn’t a lot out there to attract people to it – Swords shopping centre is nearby, but that’s about it.

But, it may suit some people.

Swords… The Middle of Nowhere??? I’d hate to see you in West cork, Kerry or Out the West past Galway city, I’d say you’d think you were on another planet. It won’t be just people living in Dublin City applying for these jobs. Swords is very easy to access for most people (but for some reason not the people in Dublin city) and also Ryanair’s offices are currently out in swords so it makes sense for a company to keep its locations close together… especially when moving into Dublin city would only lead to higher costs for them
