A STRIKE AT Roadstone quarries has been suspended, pending the outcome of a ballot that will be put to union members.
Under the proposals, the bonuses previously cut will be restored on a phased basis.
Siptu organiser Davy Lane told TheJournal.ie this evening under the proposals workers would receive a ‘no strings attached’ bonus of 25% this year.
The following year they would receive 40% of the bonus, up 5% from what was previously proposed, and in 2016 they would receive 55%, also up 5%.
Siptu workers at Roadstone Woods Ltd have been on strike since the middle of last month in a dispute over ‘major cuts’ to workers wages.
Talks with management broke down previous to the action.
The union claimed that the cuts are being implemented amid ‘the company’s directors accumulating massive bonuses’.
The union has said it will now ballot it members on Labour Court recommendations aimed at ending the industrial action.
“We have not made any recommendation to members on how they should vote,” Lane said.
“It could be too close to call, we don’t know what way it’s going to go.”
