SONY HAS REVEALED it’s sold more than 5.3 million Playstation 4 (PS4) consoles around the world since 8th February.
The new figures, which were released ahead of the PS4′s launch in Japan this Saturday, means the company sold 1.1 million consoles so far this year, adding to the 4.2 million consoles it sold in 2013.
The company say it was the best selling console in the US in January, according to NPD. This means it replaced the Xbox 360, which held the position since it was released back in 2005, as the fastest selling console in existence.
Its rival, Microsoft, has sold 3.9 million Xbox One consoles as of 23rd January. However, the console is available in 13 countries.
Originally Microsoft planned to launch in 21 countries but it delayed its release in eight European countries, saying there were “many factors” behind the decision such as localisation. In comparison, the PS4 has been available in 48 countries.
Also, the Xbox One will see the release of Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall, one of the first exclusive next-generation titles for the console, on 11th March. The developers made the beta version available to select players on Friday and is expected to finish tomorrow.
