PopCap to close Dublin office, 96 jobs impacted

Some employees have been offered positions elsewhere in the company.

INTERNATIONAL GAMING FIRM PopCap Games has closed its Dublin operations today, impacting 96 jobs in the company.

The decision comes just days after parent firm EA Games announced an expansion and the creation of 300 jobs in Galway.

It also comes on the back of a consultation period with management over the past month. In August, PopCap announced that it was considering the future of its Dublin office as part of a wider reorganisation.

In a statement issued this evening, PopCap said many employees have been offered positions in other parts of the firm and at EA. Others have been given new opportunities with technology partners in Ireland.

PopCap employs about 400 people worldwide. It was acquired by EA Games in July last year for more than $750 million. Just 19 months ago it doubled its Dublin workforce.
