Dozens of jobs saved at Pfizer plant in Cork

A total of 60 jobs have been saved following talks between management and Siptu at the LRC.

AFTER TWO YEARS of negotiatons, sixty jobs have been saved at a Pfizer plant in Cork.

The cuts were first announced in 2012, but now a deal has been reached that will see no operators losing their jobs at the Ringaskiddy facility.

With the assistance of the Labour Relations Commission, management and Siptu hammered out a deal that saved half of the jobs last year.

Work continued to save the remainder.

“A business case was then jointly formulated by the union and Pfizer management to save the remaining jobs,” Alan O’Leary of Siptu said in a statement.

“The decision by Pfizer headquarters in New York last week to accept the joint business plan and reverse the job cuts is a significant vote of confidence in the workforce at Ringaskiddy and is an example of a completely positive turnaround.”

“This positive announcement is irrefutable evidence that highly skilled Irish workers employed in Multi-National Corporations (MNCs) here can deliver world class productivity by adopting new innovative ways of working,” he added.

Last December, Pfizer announced that 150 jobs will be cut at their Newbridge manufacturing plant.

The company will seek the redundancies in 2014 and has announced it will withdraw from packaging operations at the plant in 2015,

    Pity it’s not for sale in Ireland. I hear the fumes from the plant do wonders for the old boys playing cards just outside the factory gates ..
