Opel Ireland

If you've bought an Opel recently you're being told not to drive it

New Corsas, Adams or Corsavans were manufactured with a steering fault.

IF YOU’VE BOUGHT an Opel Corsa, Adam or Corsavan since May 2014 then the manufacturer is advising you not to drive it.

Opel Ireland says that these cars have been built with a steering fault and “to avoid any risk, these cars should not be driven prior to inspection”.

The company says that 43 cars in Ireland are affected by the check and it is not aware of any accident or injury connected to the problem.

Owners are being asked to check their Vehicle Identification Number to see if it matches the list of affected vehicles Opel have put on their website.

Opel Ireland says that if owners are unsure they should contact their dealership.

It’s 43 of a particular batch that was found to be affected. Recalls happen all the time in the car industry – earlier this year Aston Martin recalled nearly every car it has built in the past 20 years after it discovered that a third party supplier was not building components to the rights specs.

This fault was discovered during routine checks, not after an accident or anything related to steering failure. It is just Opel being safe.

my siter in law had the same thing happen to her in an astra, (3 times in 3 years) almost a year to the day each time and each time it cost her around 1000 euro to get it sorted, in the end she got shut of the car ,but bought a corsa instead, 6 months old and lo and bejold the engine management system failes as shes driving back to tipperary from dublin , lucky enough she had just left the motorway at abbyleix so was not going at any great speed. not only does it shut off the power steering it shuts off the anti lock breaking system as well. its been back to the gararge twice for the same thing in the last 12 months. personally i wouldnt buy an opel , or a kia ,both heaps of shi*e !

If it’s only 43 cars affected, why cannot Opel simply call these owners, or stop by their homes ASAP to deal with this safety critical issue. Why bother with this broadcast on the journal ?

German carmaker Opel and British affiliate Vauxhall on Friday warned owners of roughly 8,000 cars not to drive them until they are inspected, due to a steering problem.
The loss-making subsidiary of US giant General Motors said the cars were ADAM and Corsa models delivered since May 2014.
“About 8,000 of these vehicles have been manufactured with a steering system part that did not meet specification,” the carmaker said in a statement.
“To avoid any risk, these cars should not be driven prior to inspection.”
The company said customers could check on their website from Saturday whether their vehicle was affected, and that it would also contact buyers directly.
The warning was made after a discovery during a quality control at the car factory. The company said it was not aware of any accident or injury caused by a steering part.

Its not unusual for cars to have electric power steering now as it is more energy efficient than the hydraulic system was.
The current model Porsche 911 is an example which has now changed to electric.
