'We didn't do it': North Korea denies hacking Sony, but praises it as a 'righteous deed'

The hack on Sony Pictures Entertainment is one of the most debilitating ever targeted at US corporate servers.

NORTH KOREA HAS today denied involvement in a cyber attack on Sony Pictures, but praised it as a “righteous deed” potentially carried out by its supporters to protest against a film featuring its leader Kim Jong-Un.

“The hacking into the Sony Pictures might be a righteous deed of the supporters and sympathizers with the (North) in response to its appeal,” the North’s top military body, the National Defense Commission, told the state-run KCNA news agency.

Movie

“The Interview” — a comedy film by Sony involving a fictional CIA plot to assassinate Kim — has infuriated Pyongyang, which earlier warned of “merciless retaliation”.

The latest hacking attack on the US movie studio is known to have included the leaking of sensitive personal information on some 47,000 individuals, including celebrities.

The attack also made unreleased Sony films available on illegal file-sharing websites, with media reports indicating the pattern matches past attacks carried out by the isolated state.

The NDC rejected the media reports as “false rumour” but went on to slam Sony for producing the film “abetting a terrorist act while hurting the dignity of the supreme leadership of the (North).”

If a film was made about killing Obama and actually made it to screen it would be seen as
    Potential terrorist propaganda
    Actual terrorist propaganda
    Terrorist propaganda
    Racist
The right to free speech would be attacked and “experts” would say we should stop free speech to curb the threat of terrorism.
Mainstream media would report .. It is alleged an alarming number of western born radicals have joined ISIS after viewing a terrorist propaganda movie about the murder of president Obama which has been claimed to have been funded by dangerous anti government and pro 2nd amendment groups .. We’ll bring you more as we get it now here’s Frank with the weather.

North Korea does not have the skill to do something like this. If their agents can hack like this then they would also be able to read international news and realize that things are much better in the rest of the world and that they are being lied to.

Most likely this was a CIA Hack designed to increase tensions.

@Isaac, In all fairness you don’t have the first clue about what ‘skill’ the North Koreans have. And I have no doubt that they are well able to read.

It emerged after the attacks on South Korea a couple of years ago (look up DarkSeoul / Operation Troy) that the Norks are being trained in hacking by China. China would absolutely be capable of this so not beyond the realm of possibility that Norks could. Not saying it’s conclusive that the Norks are behind it but just that it’s a real possibility.

Maybe North Korea can’t do it but the Chinese can. It’s possible to hire groups in China for these kinds of attacks and it’s not all that expensive. A gaming forum I use had a massive Ddos attack earlier in the year. It was all incoming from china and lasted for 4 days. Eventually it came out that a member of the forum who was banned paid for the attack.
