Here's what the new €20 note looks like

The notes won’t be distributed until 25 November.

THIS IS WHAT what the new €20 note is going to look like.

The note was unveiled by ECB President Mario Draghi this afternoon but you wont’t be getting your hands on any crisp news ones until November at the earliest.

What does it look like? Quite like our current version, but is definitely even bluer.

It’s part of the ECB’s ‘Europa series’ which has also seen the introduction of new €5 and €10 notes.

New €50, €100, €200 and €500 notes are also being planned.

The notes are so named because they contain a hologram of the Greek mythological figure, Europa, from which our continent is named.

Europa is viewable on both sides of the note and only appears when the note is held up against the light.

The hologram is contained in a window at the side of the note described by Draghi as “a real innovation in banknote technology”.

The €20 note is one of the most widely used of all the euro notes and there are a number of steps that need to carried out before we start using them.

The new notes will be lent to manufacturers over the summer so that they can adapt thier printing machines and authentication devices.

An estimated 3 million leaflets will also be sent out in October telling retailers about the new notes to be used by the 338 million citizens across the euro area.
