Nestlé recalls Kit Kat Chunky after complaints of plastic found in bars

The company has also recalled the Kit Kat Chunky Collection Giant Egg which contains a number of the bars.

SWISS FOOD GIANT Nestlé has recalled four of its Kit Kat Chunky special varieties from eight countries because of complaints in the UK of plastic found in the chocolate bars.

Nestlé said in a statement today that it has inititated a voluntary recall of the 48g bars in peanut butter, hazelnut, chocolate fudge and caramel flavours and the Kit Kat Chunky Collection Giant Egg in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Malta, Austria, Singapore, Philippines and Canada.

Seven customers in the UK have complained about pieces of plastic that they found in the product. The company said it has not received any other similar complaints, but to avoid any risk to consumers it has decided to recall the entire production manufactured from September 2012.

The affected products are predominantly sold in the UK and the company said that they are not sold by Nestlé in any other country other than those mentioned.

All of these products are sold in Ireland, however a press representative could not be reached this evening to confirm that they were also being recalled here.

The company apologised for any inconvenience and said that the safety and quality of all its products are "non-negotiable priorities".

Any consumers who have purchased these products with the best before date range of July 2013 to December 2013 are advised not to eat the product and return it unopened for a full refund. For more information, call 00800 6378 5385 from 8am to 8pm tomorrow.

I went to the shop the other day and said to the girl behind the counter “can I have a kit-kat chunky?” She replied “get out short arse”.

Wouldn’t be gone off Aisling but might have lost some flavour. It’s not a use-by date and chocolate if stored correctly lasts a very long time. But I get your point.

The first year I went to Cyprus I was warned not to buy chocolate if it wasn’t in the fridge, but I was young – and you never listen when you’re young..
So I went off and got myself a whole nut.. Bit into it and then looked at the bar to see a wormy thing wriggling..
Haven’t been able to eat whole nut bars since!

With a Best Before End of September 2012? Would have to be selling at a major discount if to be six months after their BBE. Should that be Sept ’13?
