NEIL DELAMERE IS joining Today FM.

The award-winning comedian is no stranger to the station – his first opportunity on the airwaves was covering for Ian Dempsey, and he filled in on the mid-morning weekday slot before Anton Savage took over.

Delamere has also stood in for John Murray and Derek Mooney on RTÉ Radio 1.

He will now take over the 11am Sunday slot with a new show, Sunday Best, beginning in April and to be produced by news editor Aingeala Flannery.

The show’s predecessor, Savage Sunday, recorded month after month of rising listernship, eventually reaching 118,000 by February this year.

Making the announcement this morning on The Anton Savage Show, Delamere said the show will contain the usual rummage through the papers, but then “we’re going to try to take a kinda sideways view of things”. He said it will aim not to be solely dedicated by the news cycle.

When asked how he will balance it with his comedy commitments, Delamere said he will have to be influenced by Padre Pio and bi-locate.

“It’s a commitment I’m delighted to make,” he said, “I’m really looking forward to it”.
