Southwest region performing strongly as unemployment rate falls again

The unemployment rate now stands at 11.5%.

Updated 12.02pm

THE NUMBER OF people unemployed has fallen to 382,800, down 3,400 from last month.

Stats published today by the CSO gives Ireland an unemployment rate of 11.5%, down 0.1%.

However, unadjusted figures show a 5,702 increase in the number of people on the Live Register.

While overall the number of long-term claimants decreased by 4.5%, the number of female claimants in this category rose by 3.2%.

July saw both southwest and west regions perform strongly.

While not all regions saw a fall in unemployment compared to last month, there was a decrease in every area compared to the same period last year.

This was weakest in the Border, Midland, and Western region, which saw a decease of 2,467.

Figures for June show that all Back to Work schemes saw a small increase in the number of claimants, with JobBridge falling by 195 to 6,782, but a year-on-year increase of almost 850.

Minister of State for Employment, Community and Social Supports Kevin Humphreys noted that this is the 25th consecutive month the Live Register has fallen.

“The majority of people on the Live Register have a strong financial incentive to work,” he said, “I will work with the Tánaiste to continue the reforms set out in the Pathways to Work strategy which are getting jobseekers back to work, building a better quality life for them and building a stable and prosperous society for all.”

Funny though their support must be frightening to some, so much so that they set up fake accounts to troll sites such as this.

None of my 3 student/adult kids could get summer hotel work this summer as every hotel is packed full of Interns!
Put the intern number into the unemployment rate and include College students as unemployed during the summer break and a totally different picture will emerge compared to previous years!
Internships have driven down wages and increased workloads on others!
I worked every summer from when I was 14 in the early 80′s during recession-it was easy to get summer jobs then!- this Govt are ruining the country and pushing thousands into poverty!
They can massage the figures, but they can’t hide from the truth as its felt on the ground!

Why the desperate hope that this is all down to emigration?

Why do you have to force yourself to ignore the facts, even just the anecdotal evidence.

How do you explain, VAT, income tax increases, no’s emplyed increases, increased sme trade, increased car sales, increased job adverts, increased revenue at recruitment firms and on and on and on.

There is no joy or benefit to you or anyone in pretending that it all black, all the time. Misery without end etc.

Alcoholism and depression are not disability’s they ought b treated a treatable temporary illness, for every form of them there is treatment available.
Get them diagnosed, get them treated and get them back to work. Nobody should linger for years on disability.
Besides how’s it going to help your depression or odds of relapse to addiction if you’re at home all day alone with nothing to do?

What is interesting is that Ireland is pulling away from the rest of Europe in terms of growth. We are heading towards the top of the league in that, by just returning to a normal day to day state of affairs.

Look at interest rates and bond yields in most of Europe they are the lowest in hundreds of years. No growth is now the norm in most of Europe.

The EU/ECB have killed growth in a continent, that is the story we should be looking at. In the future will we stay and go down with the ship or scramble away.

    We are pointing up.

We at least are returning to growth and have a future. Countries like, Italy, France, Portugal etc are in long term decline.

@ Seanie: Much of that also has to do with the demographics in those countries. The Irish population is among the youngest in Europe.

Also much of the damage was done by national governments. Think of Bertie and co in the run up to 2008 as opposed to any European bodies.
