Numbers on the Live Register fall again in November, unemployment at 12.5 per cent

More good news for the government this morning.

THE NUMBER OF people signing on the Live Register fell by over 5,000 in the month of November, according to figures released by the Central Statistics Office this morning.

The standardised unemployment rate now stands at 12.5 per cent, according to the Live Register figures which show that a total of 391,507 people were on the register in November, 5,005 fewer than in October.

On a seasonally adjusted basis the figures stand at 406,200, down 3,400 in the month or 0.1 per cent.

On an annual basis the total number of people singing on the Live Register fell by 25,770 in the year to end of November and this is 38,060 lower than in November 2011.

The number of long term claimants on the Live Register in November 2013 was 179,758 with 211,749 people on the register for less than one year.

The latest figures will bolster the government’s argument that the economy is recovering.

Separate CSO figures published last week showed than 58,000 jobs have been added in the last year.

The statistics agency’s Quarterly National Household Survey showed that the number of people unemployed has fallen to 12.8 per cent.
