THE DAIL PUBLIC Accounts Committee (PAC) has criticised the high cost of legal services provided to the State. It has also concluded that the provision of these services is not open to competitive tender.
The Irish Times today reports that Bernard Allen, chairman of PAC, said the committee had found that the process through which legal services were procured for the State was restrictive and anti-competitive.
The Fine Gael TD, who announced this week that he will not stand in the general election on March 11, said the legal costs for advice on the bank debt issue were “staggering”.
