  • We have lost 6 very good friends with their families in limerick last year to emigration. However, I am glad to hear of these new jobs, as I do not want to move my family. Limerick is a very small place and hope is fading fast, like the rest of Ireland.

  • Totally agree Paul. Even if it was only 10 or 15 jobs mentioned this time. If five or ten companies offered a similar number of jobs then it would be a great help. The news is predominantly bad news and the like so to actually have good news reported about your local area is always a good thing.

  • For a comparison to Dublin this is like 865 jobs being announced there. Great news for Limerick. I used population of urban centre as a weight. So yes good news

I think if some company came in and announced 100,000 jobs the moaners on this site would still be complaining that it wasn’t enough.

  • About bloody time – Limerick and other towns like Waterford have been passed over too long by the IDA.

  • The good thing about this announcement is that the jobs will be in the city centre (as opposed to the suburbs). They could go a big way to revitalising the city centre. It really is big news.

  • To me it just seems like the media and rte in particular are trying to make the whole jobs situation sound a lot more stable than it actually is, of course its a good thing when someone gets a job but is it really newsworthy to announce small numbers of jobs
    ?

    • You obliviously have a job and don’t live in Limerick…
Small enough place so it could help make a real difference down there, an I now some people will call it propaganda but I believe good news on the jobs front is good for us all to hear, gives us hope like

    • Well i actually Dont. Like i said great for the people who get them but so many others are unemployed and it just seems like a drop in the ocean. There is a greater proportion of media emphasis on the few jobs created than on the many many unemployed and high rate of emigration. Maybe I have it all wrong but those announcements really dishearten me.

    • So you only want the media to announce when one company comes in to announce 400,000 jobs in the next week?

You’re comments are horrendously pessimistic … I agree 60 jobs isn’t a recovery but as someone said above its better than 60 jobs lost or a decision to chose another country over Ireland

These jobs might not get u excited but it might be the hope and lifeline others need and will get

    • 62 is only the number of DIRECT jobs. The income into the pockets of 62 people is then spent in Limerick economy which helps maintain employment in shops, restaurants etc and may even create the demand for new jobs.

Considering these jobs are probably well paid, you’re also talking about a strong tax intake also.

    • Well maybe Im a pessimist then hard not to be in these times. but where does this reporting end, does it have to be in the news everytime a job is created. Like Ive said great for the people who get the jobs it really is but what about all the others on and joining the dole queue and having to leave the country. We aren’t constantly being told those figures. Its like something from animal farm.

  • a bit of good news for the city but they cant replace the 4,000 jobs that dell and the other auxiliary factories were providing

  • All they do is just reboot the device ;)

    • All they’ll have to do now is find somebody with education and skills in the official biggest dump in Europe.

    • There are plenty of people here with education and skills. And manners for that matter.
And after spending the today strolling around by the river and having an excellent lunch with my mother and daughter before walking around the city, wholeheartedly disagree with your comment that it’s a dump.

Limerick looked beautiful today. Even more beautiful than usual.
