Good news: €80 million investment and 180 new jobs for Limerick

Both Richard Bruton and Michael Noonan announced the new positions this afternoon.

TWO MINISTERS WERE on hand today to announce the creation of 270 new jobs in Limerick – 90 of which have already been filled.

Jobs Minister Richard Bruton was joined by local man and Cabinet colleague, Michael Noonan, to welcome Ethicon Biosurgery’s €80 million investment to create a manufacturing facility in the county.

Construction on the 60,000-square-foot plant, to be located at the National Technology Park in Plassey, is expected to be completed by 2015.

According to IDA Ireland, a further 150 additional temporary jobs will be created during the building process.

Recruitment for the company’s 270 positions has started – with 90 positions already filled. The remaining 180 are due to come on board over the next five years.

Ethicon Biosurgery is part of the Johnson&Johnson family and is worldwide leader in hemostasis and sealing solutions.

The Limerick facility will make a new product that helps stop bleeding during surgery.

The company said it chose Ireland as the destination for the new production line because of a “unique clustering of medical device manufacturing, automation and biomanufacturing skill sets across the Johnson & Johnson companies already operating” here.

Speaking at the launch this afternoon, Bruton said the government is working to reverse the decline in employment in the manufacturing sector.

He noted that Ethicon’s investment is a “model of what we are trying to achieve”.

“A great global company investing €80 million in a manufacturing plant in Limerick, creating large numbers of permanent jobs as well as construction jobs, with huge knock-on benefits for the surrounding areas.

I know Ethicon Biosurgery and IDA have worked hard to get to this point, and I wish the company every success with this project.

Noonan added his delight that the operation will be located in his native Limerick.

“The IDA is doing an excellent job in attracting jobs and investment to Limerick and with each new investment, the attractiveness of Limerick as a world class hub for life science and high tech companies is growing,” he said.

Where do companies get their names these days?

“Ethicon” as a company name is a most unfortunate compound.
Better than Moralswindle or Honestscam I suppose.

This is great news but they’re not really new jobs if they’ve already been filled
