THE GOVERNMENT HAS announced 200 additional jobs, more or less evenly split between Dublin and Limerick, at the launch of the latest installment of its ‘Action Plan for Jobs’, for 2015.
The new jobs are coming on stream at ICON plc, which provides outsourced development services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device sectors.
The company has announced the foundation of what it’s calling a “global innovation hub” here. The jobs will be in IT, data analytics, clinical science, project management, finance and human resources.
The firm, founded in Dublin in 1990, now employs 11,000 people in 40 countries.
“Today’s announcement that ICON is creating an extra 200 jobs in Ireland – split roughly evenly between Dublin and Limerick – which will take its total employment to 1,200 here, is a huge boost and a great example of what is possible from companies like this,” Jobs Minister Richard Bruton said in a statement.
The project has been part-funded by the Government, through Enterprise Ireland.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Tánaiste Joan Burton, Bruton and a number of junior ministers are giving the latest update on their ongoing jobs strategy at a press launch at ICON’s offices in Leopardtown, south Dublin, this morning.
It follows the coalition’s recent announcement that it’s targeting a return to full employment by 2018.
