Cork, Dublin, and Limerick are getting a heap of jobs this morning

Two companies are expanding and Limerick IT is getting a new campus.

HUNDREDS OF NEW jobs have been announced this morning in sectors ranging from communications to education.

In Cork, General Electric’s aptly named healthcare subsidiary, GE Healthcare, will expand its plant at Carrigtwohill, Co Cork, in a €37.7 million investment.

The company expects the workforce to increase by 140 to a total of 640 people.

The plant, in operation since 1992, fills, packs, and distributes contrast media, a dye used in medical scans such as MRI to improve the visibility of the body’s internal structure.

The expansion will almost double the plant’s production capacity.

Martin Shanahan, chief executive of IDA Ireland said the announcement signals that the life sciences sector “continues to thrive in Ireland”, with more targeted investment by the agency planned in the coming months.

Another project supported by the IDA is the expansion of a mail and digital communications provider in the capital.

Neopost, founded in 1924, currently has a workforce of 60 people in Dublin and plans to hire another 100. It plans to open a new €15 million operations centre in Citywest, recruiting in the areas of management, finance, IT, telesales and administration.

“These jobs are being created as a result of increasing numbers of customers choosing Neopost to help them transition from physical documents to digital communications,” a statement read.

On the other side of the country, Limerick IT is opening a new campus, with students expected to be able to start next Autumn.

The €3.5 million complex will be located at the Coonagh Cross shopping centre.

Maria Hinfelaar, president of LIT, described the development as a “game-changer”.
