Getting a lift: 400 jobs on the way at forklift company

Forklift company Combilift is pumping €40 million into a new plant on the Monaghan bypass.

400 PERMANENT AND short-term jobs are on the way at a new Combilift facility in Co Monaghan.

The forklift company has recently invested in a site of industrial-zoned land on the Monaghan bypass, and plans to invest €40 million in a 40,000 square metre manufacturing plant.

The company is promising 200 jobs over the next five years, mostly for skilled
technicians and design engineers.

A further 200 jobs will be created during the two-year construction period, according to the firm.

Management are hoping the new facility will position them to double Combilift’s current €150 million turnover over the next five years.

The company currently employs over 300 people in Monaghan town and in Clontibret.

Combilift is best known for its range of multi-directional forklifts, articulated forklifts and other material handling equipment.

A Government statement welcoming the jobs announcement including comments from the Taoiseach, Jobs Minister Richard Bruton and Arts Minister Heather Humphreys, who is the local TD.

“These new jobs will have a deeply positive impact on those who get back to work or take up new opportunities, but they also have a knock-on economic benefit for local businesses, shops, restaurants, tradespeople and service providers,” the Taoiseach said.

The Combilift investment programme has been supported by the Department of Jobs, through Enterprise Ireland.

Jason Bourne, yet they’re blamed for job losses? They may not create jobs, but they create an environment where others can do so, and that’s clearly happening.

Jason Bourne you hypocrite. It’s fine gaels fault when there’s job losses, but nothing to do with them when jobs are created, is that it? Can’t be both, make up your mind

Ted you, and whoever is promoting, for whatever reason, this idea that distribution, the most cut throat industry in the world, is going to create jobs through sub contacting a job, fork-lift driving, which is a minimum wage in the first place…is fukin dreaming.

Shouldn’t that read 200 new jobs, as the other 200 will be building contractors who already exist (unless there going to just take people off the street and let them build a factory), my spin from a desperate governmen. We’re not intrested in potental jobs in five years, its the now we need them in.

They do have work already, haven’t you heard, austerity finished over a year ago and the ecomony is in recovery, in fact we’re where we were in 2007, all true according to the government spin (well except for the massive dept, extra taxes/levies, charges both present and future but we wont mention those (wink))
I only believe what I see and experiance, and remember, the most important thing isn’t what a politician is saying, it’s what he’s NOT saying that counts.

It doesn’t really create employment though, not the way the article suggests. The likelihood of this expansion creating 200 new jobs for construction staff is actually quite low as many will more than likely already be on the books of the firms hired to do the job.

It’ll contribute to keeping a good portion of them in a job and may result in a few extra being hired to fill gaps but it certainly doesn’t result in pulling 200 more people off the live registrar than were on it yesterday.

    More jobs?

I reckon the professional whingers online are paid to say that there are no jobs every time new jobs are announced. They actually have jobs, giving out about new jobs. Now that’s irony.

Oh give it a rest, from what I’m reading from people is not whining but rational comments stating that rarely does one construction job offer 200 “new” jobs…..contractors and subcontractors would have men already employed and this statement is lacking on how construction would lead to 200 “new” jobs.

Especially on construction, unless of course it’s a brand new construction company with no employees, welcome news for the region though but I’d safely say the construction end would create a possible 50 “new” jobs.

These are proper indigenous jobs created in Monaghan by a Monaghan company, not some fly by night foreign multinational. No replacement for Bose jobs unfortunately, as they are in a different industry at the far end of the county.
