THERE IS SPECULATION this evening that there could be further job losses in Pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

A spokesperson for Pfizer confirmed to TheJournal.ie, that staff from the Newbridge plant have been called to attend a meeting tomorrow morning.

Meeting

She said that the company would not be making any further statements, saying the company would like to share the information with their colleagues first.

KFM says their sources state there could be up to 100 – 150 jobs losses. The meeting is due to be held at 8.30am.

Pfizer Newbridge was established in County Kildare in 1992 and since 2006, over €350 million has been invested into the manufacturing site.

The facility currently supplies over 80 product formulations across a wide range of product categories including central nervous system, hormone therapy and oral contraceptive to more than 100 markets around the world.

Job losses

In 2012, Pfizer cut 177 jobs at two of its plants in County Cork, while in May of this year, they announced they would be closing a facility in Little Island, outside Cork City, with the loss of 136 jobs.

Pfizer has invested €5.4 billion in its operations here since opening its first plant in 1969.

Pfizer recently announced an investment of €100 million in two manufacturing sites in Ireland, creating an estimated 250 construction jobs.

The company said it is expanding two sites – one in Clondalkin in Dublin and the other in Ringaskiddy in Cork – to produce drugs which will deal with some of the most devastating and difficult to cure diseases.
