Insomnia to open 15 new franchises and create 100 new jobs

The Irish-owned coffee shop already has over 60 outlets on the high street.

THE INSOMNIA COFFEE Company has announced that it is to enter the retail franchising market and create 100 new jobs over the next five years in the process.

The Irish-owned company, which operates coffee shops across the country, has said it plans to open 15 stores over the next five years which will lead to the creation of the 100 jobs.

The new stores will allow entrepreneurs to get involved in the franchising opportunities on offer and the company has encouraged anyone “with a genuine interest and passion for coffee” to come to their stand at the Franchising Exhibition at the RDS on 27 and 28 April.

The Insomnia Chairman and Dragons’ Den favourite, Bobby Kerr said today: “We have now reached a point in our development where we believe that partnering with ambitious entrepreneurs through a best practice franchising relationship will support our future growth and expansion plans.

“We are excited about this new development and believe that it will position us strongly to bring our customer focused Insomnia offer to more people throughout Ireland.”

Set up in 1997, the company has gone on to become one of the country’s most successful brands with over 60 coffee shops on high streets nationwide.

It has additional outlets in Eason’s, Spar, Meadows & Byrne, Plantagen (Gardenworks) and An Post as well as 150 branded self-service machines nationwide.

Any hope that “Insomnia” coffee shops won’t be closing at 1800h from now on?

Why should you not drink coffee after 6pm?? Some people work nights. Not everyone works 9-5pm.

Yes lots of stores now open late. If you live in Dublin, there is even one open 24/7 on Dame Street. Check out their website.

Maybe. But, personally, I’d rather an Irish firm had saturation across the city. But I fully agree with you on pricing. Costa is extortionate!

You can’t beat their €3.50 any size coffee with any cake offering! Cheap and cheerful!

€3.50 is good for a large coffee and a cake, but daily, not to good on the waste line.

I agree. They push there coffee as not being bitter but it is singly the most bitter coffee on the market. A cup from one of the automatic machines found in Spars and the like is revolting. Flooded with bitter tannins.

15 shops should easily support 100 jobs and a small number of spin offs. Something called the multiplier effect in economics. If you read a company saying it is creating 100 jobs the net spin off could be 110-120 depending on the value of the jobs. It works the other way when job cuts/ redundancies are announced
