THE ANNUAL RATE of inflation has increased to 2.8 per cent after the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.3 per cent in October, the CSO has said.
The CPI rose by 0.3 per cent in October compared to a 0.1 per cent rise in October of last year. Prices on average were 1.5 per cent higher in October of this year compared to the same period in October 2010.
The 0.3 per cent rise in October mirrors that in September where annual inflation was at 2.6 per cent.
The CSO says that the most notable changes in the year are in housing, water, and other utilities including fuel up 10.2 per cent, education up 6.5 per cent, goods and services up 6.4 per cent, and transport up 3.6 per cent.
There were falls in household items by 2.2 per cent and restaurant and hotels by 0.9 per cent.
The annual rate of inflation for services was 4.1 per cent in the year to October, goods increased 1.2 per cent.
