Number of days lost to industrial disputes rises for third consecutive quarter

Figures released today by the CSO shows that 6,718 days were lost to industrial disputes in the third quarter of this year.

THE NUMBER OF days lost to industrial disputes is almost twelve times higher this year than during the same period in 2012.

Figures released today from the Central Statistics Office reveal that 6,718 days were lost to industrial disputes during Q3 of this year, up from 517 last year.

This figure has now risen for three consecutive quarters.

3,032 workers were involved in industrial strike during Q3, up almost 600 from Q2. The vast majority of these were SIPTU and NBRU members involved in the strike at Dublin Bus in August.

While the numbers of day lost is at its highest level since Q2 of 2012, the final quarter of 2009 saw nearly 250,000 days lost.

This was due to strike action by unions such as the ASTI and IMPACT, and caused widespread disruption across the country.
