THE MAKER OF the BlackBerry has unveiled five new devices, including three touchscreen smartphones.
Research in Motion (RIM) has launched one phone which operates by touch only- the BlackBerry Torch, while two further devices feature a combination of touchscreen and QWERTY keyboards.
The Guardian reports that the phones will run on the new BlackBerry 7 operating system. The further two devices launched today are simply different versions of the new smartphones. According to Reuters it’s claimed that the new OS will make internet browsing up to 40 per cent faster.
RIM hopes to revive BlackBerry’s dwindling appeal in the face of competition from the iPhone and Android smartphones.
The new phones had been expected earlier this year, but were delayed. Earlier this month RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie said that the new products would incorporate technology that ‘jumps a generation’.
