Another 'vote of confidence' from IBM with up to 40 new jobs

The company is to open a new multilingual Software Services Operation Centre

UP TO 40 new jobs are to be created in a new operations centre at IBM’s Dublin campus, in the second ‘big data’ jobs announcement today.

The jobs will form part of the company’s global software services, and is aimed at streamlining and improving efficiency.

“The centre will integrate and interconnect information from our software engagements around the world, enabling us to apply analytics, process innovation and experience to get closer to our clients,” said IBM’s Director of Worldwide Services & Education Operations Michelle Ginther.

“We can offer clients a greater involvement in the design and development of our software offerings and a more personalised engagement with our services.”

IDA CEO Barry O’Leary welcomed the announcement, highlighting IBM’s continued votes of confidence in Ireland, with Jobs Minister Richard Bruton noting that the Action Plan for Jobs specifically aims towards “supporting the high growth areas of cloudcomputing and Big Data”.

IBM first set up here in 1956, and uses its Dublin centre as a centre for global management.

Still no mention of the 78 jobs being shed by Abbott, even Pravda (rte) mentioned it.

    Appropriate name.
    1. It’s on the IBM campus in Dublin so it’s always going to be in Dublin.
    2. It’s multilingual support. Try attracting foreign hires to the arse end of nowhere. Irish people aren’t the best at languages.

Dublin is more densely populated than anywhere else in the country. That’s bound to influence IBM with regard to where they would set up their base of operations.

For those not familiar with the actual logistics… and the pro and anti Dublin militias…

The IBM Campus is actually right on the Dublin Meath border, the Campus actually borders it. Its opposite Clonee which is county Meath.

Are these jobs that can be filled from the unemployment register or will it be people working in IT etc switching employers with the resultant vacancies being filled by oversea labour?
