MUSIC AND DVD retailer HMV is to hire 200 seasonal staff in the run-up to Christmas.
The jobs will be created across the group’s Irish network of 16 stores, including its flagship on Grafton Street.
The positions will run through to January 2013 but the company said they may lead to longer-term employment if permanent roles become available.
Recruitment has started with many jobs already filled. However, some places still have to be finalised and any interested applicants can visit their nearest store or check out the website.
In a statement, HMV said the last quarter of the year is a key time for the entertainment and technology sector.
“The run up to the Christmas holiday period is an incredibly important time of the year for us, especially as so many fantastic releases come out around this time,” added general manager Jay Smit. “Up to half of the demand that we experience over the course of a year will take place now and over the next few weeks, so it’s vital that our stores are 100 per cent ready and well staffed so we can give the best-possible service to all our customers.”
