INCREMENTS THAT WERE due to be paid to teachers on 18 December have not been paid due to a a “software problem”.
According to the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO), under the Haddington Road Agreement, the increments had been delayed for three months, but were due to be included in teachers’ salaries for Christmas.
The INTO confirmed to TheJournal.ie that a meeting was held with the Department of Education last week, whereby they were told that the delay was due to a “software problem” with their payroll system. The department told the INTO that they were working to solve the issue, but as of this morning, the payments had still not come through.
The INTO said they have received a written apology for this delay in the payment of increments to this group of teachers. The organisation is calling for the earliest possible payment.
The group said that it will maintain contact with the department on a daily basis on this matter and provide updates on their website as they are received.
It is believed that teachers who were due an increment from December, which was delayed from September, are affected at this time. The general secretary said the department had over 12 months to prepare for this and the delay was entirely unacceptable.
