TÁNAISTE AND MINSTER For Foreign Affairs Éamon Gilmore will deliver the opening address at the Global Irish Economic Forum in Dublin Castle this morning.
The biennial forum will take place for the third time over the next two days with over 300 delegates taking part from more than 40 countries.
Three regional meetings took place in Cork, Belfast and Galway yesterday ahead of the official beginning of the summit.
Over the course of the two days there will be 18 working groups and six panel discussions with forum organisers saying the programme is aiming to focus on opportunities for Ireland in sectors including financial services, food and agri-tech and higher education.
Among those in attendances will be Irial Finian executive vice president of the Coca-Cola Company, Sean O’Driscoll of Glen Dimplex and comedian Dara O’Briain.
Media tycoon Denis O’Brien will also be present at the forum despite the controversy his presence at the 2011 forum generated. Speaking in August Pat Rabbitte said that he wasn’t concerned by O’Brien’s presence at the forum.
In response to calls from enhanced engagement between with the SME sector forum organisers say that they have set aside much of tomorrow morning for a networking and mentoring session between forum participants and Irish companies.
The first panel discussion at the forum will be chaired by economist David McWilliams and will be streamed online.
