Ex-government press secretary and retired jockey among tax defaulters

Retired jockey Charlie Swan made a settlement of more than €122,000 with Revenue.

FORMER GOVERNMENT PRESS secretary Frank Dunlop has been named on Revenue’s latest tax defaulter list.

Dunlop, with an address at Rathbeggan, Dunboyne, Co Meath, made a settlement totalling €429,198 with Revenue after under-declaring income tax and VAT.

Retired jockey and trainer Charlie Swan of The Cobs, Modreeny in Cloughjordan, Co Tipperary is also on the list. Swan made a settlement of €122,442 for an under-declaration of income tax and VAT and for a case linked to an ongoing investigation into offshore assets.

In the three month period to June this year, 108 cases were published with settlements totalling €18.52 million.

Of these settlements, 51 were for amounts in excess of €100,000. Eight of these were for more than €500,000 and three were for more than €1 million.

Four of the settlements relate to Revenue’s investigation into offshore assets and funds.

The list published today is only a portion of the 1,718 audits and investigations by Revenue between April and June this year.

Revenue said settlements are only published in this format when the extensive voluntary disclosure options are not availed of and the default is as a result of careless or deliberate behaviour.
