Facebook Messenger could soon allow you to send money to your friends

A hidden payments service was found in the current version of Facebook’s messaging app, allowing users to transfer cash via debit card.

FACEBOOK IS LIKELY to introduce its own payments service after such a feature was found hidden in the current version of Facebook Messenger.

Stanford student, Andrew Aude, has released screenshots and video of a new payment platform that is hidden in the current version of Facebook Messenger.

According to TechCrunch, when the feature is activated, users can send money in a message similar to how they attach an image.

The service also includes an in-app pincode to add extra security around payments, while it appears that only debit cards are allowed with the service.

Facebook has been interested in facilitating payments for a while now. Back in April, the company applied to the Irish Central Bank for an e-money service, while in June, it hired the President of PayPal, David Marcus, to become its vice-president of messaging products.

In its latest earnings call, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg mentioned the company’s intentions to enter the payments market, but warned that it wouldn’t be happening anytime soon saying “We’re going to take the time to do this in the way that is going to be right.”

    Why Facebook is Mega-Creepy:

    1. Employers, government and banks know all about you and your friends.
    2. Facebook data is now being used in court as evidence- a reliable source told me of an Irish litigation that used FB.
    3. Banks are about to introduce FB data into loan applications.
    4. The water bucket challenge has all the hallmarks of a social experiment (which was surprisingly successful)
    5. FB advertising is an utter rip off for small businesses.
    6. Now payments?

Not only did i suspend my FB account long ago- i had it deleted. Took two weeks and they tried every little bit of persuasion they could to stop me. If you want to keep your FB account going and get into trouble as a result I wish you the very best of luck.

And there is the reason not to unfriend family…. or more of a reason to unfriend certain friends around their birthday.
