Irish Examiner group is cutting more than 50 jobs

Landmark Media Investments informed staff of the news at the newspaper’s Cork office today.

THE GROUP WHICH owns The Irish Examiner newspaper is to cut almost 10 per cent of its workforce.

Landmark Media Investments (LMI) informed staff at the newspaper’s Cork office today that the company is to cut more than 50 of its 560 jobs.

The company says that the positions are to be cut because of technology investment and efficiencies.

Landmark acquired The Examiner along with the other titles in the Thomas Crosbie Holdings group as part of restructuring last year.

Other publications which form part of the LMI group include the Evening Echo, Waterford News & Star and the Wexford Echo.

Thomas Crosbie Holdings was liquidated as part of the transfer of the titles to LMI last March and 12 jobs were lost in that process.

An examiner was placed on the The Sunday Business Post as part of the deal and the paper was then subsequently bought by separate investors.
