APPLE’S RANGE OF Emojis is about to get a lot more racially diverse.

The company’s range of tiny cartoon faces and figures is being expanded to include 300 new characters or symbols.

The new Emojis will appear on the next update for the iPhone – iOS 8.3.

So far, the new software has just been released to developers.

Tech bloggers and developers have been tweeting them out in recent days…

Public outcry

It’s expected Apple will release a public version of the new system in mid-March.

The tech giant announced last year that it would improve the options for the the popular symbols, after a number of petitions began circulating.

“There are currently over 800 emoji, but only two represent people of colour. More emoji are coming soon, with zero new representation,” a message on campaigning site dosomething.org said.

The campaign gained momentum after Miley Cyrus tweeted about it…

Thirty-two new country flags – including Ireland’s tricolour – are also being added as part of Apple’s inclusion drive, according to CNN. There’ll also be an expanded selection of family icons, including more same-sex couples.
