You can't buy adult eBooks in Germany until after 10pm

It’s been ruled that an old law for adult films applies to eBooks.

IF YOU’RE INTO a bit of erotic reading in the afternoon you might want to cross Germany off your list.

A new ruling means that German booksellers could face a €500,000 fine if they sell adult books outside the hours of 10pm and 6am.

Book industry website boersenblatt.net reports that it’s been ruled the 2002 Youth Media Protection Act, designed to protect children from violent, right-wing and pornographic content, also applies to eBooks.

The Independent says the the ruling came after a legal complaint arose about a German eBook called Schlauchgelüste (Pantyhose Cravings).

The 10pm to 6am rule was brought in to protect children from adult cinema and it had been thought that it would be impractical to apply it to online media.

But it’s been determined that that’s not the case and eBooks listed on an index of adult books can now only be sold during the determined night-time window.
