THE HEALTH Service Executive has indefinitely postponed the opening of a community hospital in Dingle, Co Kerry.
The delay is apparently due to a problem securing registration for the facility from the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA).
The hospital, was built at a cost of €16m.
HIQA has said that it has ‘serious’ concerns about a number of issues relating to the facility, which means that the opening of the hospital is likely to be delayed for several months.
The opening for the hospital was recently confirmed for 27 July 2010, but this date has since been revised.
Dingle News reported that the news of the latest postponement had “sparked anger locally as arrangements had already been made to transfer patients; medical supplies, equipment and files had already been transferred from St. Elizabeth’s in advance of the proposed opening.”
