THE COMPUTER GIANT Dell has said it will create 150 additional jobs in cloud-computing between Dublin and Limerick.

The company – which employs around 1,000 service and support staff in Limerick and a further 1,300 in direct sales and support in Dublin – announced the new jobs this morning at government buildings.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny hailed the announcement, saying the jobs represent “an important step in making Ireland a centre of excellence” in cloud computing, reports RTÉ News.

He further added that the new jobs demonstrated Dell’s commitment to Ireland and confidence in its operations here. Two years ago, Dell cut 1,900 jobs at its Limerick plant moving its production unit to Poland.

It is the second lot of cloud-computing jobs to be announced this week with US firm Mycroft yesterday announcing that it would create 50 new jobs in Waterford.
