Construction output achieves largest annual rise since 2006

Figures from the Central Statistics Office showed that volumes in the constuction sector in the second quarter were 11.2 per cent higher than last year.

CONSTRUCTION OUTPUT INCREASED by 11.2 per cent in the second quarter of this year when compared to the same period last year.

The annual increase is the second consecutive rise and represented the sharpest annual growth since 2006.

The figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed that the output rise reflects year-on-year increases of 13.2 per cent, 11.9 per cent and 8 per cent respectively in non-residential building, civil engineering and residential building work.

On a quarterly basis the CSO said that the volume of output in building and construction was 1.7 per cent higher in the second quarter of this year when compared with the preceding period.

The quarterly rise reflects increases of 1.2 per cent and 14.9 per cent respectively in residential building and non-residential building. There was a decrease of 0.5 per cent in the volume of civil engineering.
